In keeping with advancement in Information technology the Defence Services Staff College WAN a vision of providing convergence based network for data, video and voice on a single platform and implementing network centric learning. The vision also incorporates efficient workflow management and integration with other training institutions within the services. Initial networking was started in year 1999 with one server and 31 computers provided from ADG (Sys). Till 2004 the network increased to approximately 250 clients with integration of different technologies available over the period. Important offices and all syndicate rooms were be connected. Due to constraints of funds it could be matured with limitations in various sections. In year 2001, the Army Web was extended to the college and connected as extranet to the college network. This initiated the concept of two layered network in the college. The College Area Network provides data services, video streaming and video conferencing, audio streaming and voice on Internet Protocol Telephony.

		All the offices, syndicate rooms, division discussion halls, sand model rooms have been connected on OFC backbone. The connectivity is about 500 clients. All the 600 residences are to be connected in phases. As of now about 400 houses have been connected. The College website provides information on college history, places around Wellington, College publications and Alumni and Message boards for Commandant, Chief Instructors, and various branch and section heads. The DSSC Knowledge Portal provides précis, archived Trishul, Training programme, teaching material linked to the training programme and support information.

OFFICE NETWORK SUPPORT CENTRE DATA CENTRE

	The state of the art facility centre in Lentaigne Hall is extremely useful for all kinds of audio-video editing work for various types of projects. Dissertations and presentations. It provides 08 networked workstations for Student Officers and 07 networked workstations for Directing Staff. There is provision of audio recording and editing and converting of formats from audio to MPEG3 and vice versa. Also video editing is carried out including conversion from VHS to DVD formats and vice versa. Video editing, format conversation, scanning and is replication are also available. The College has a 64 Kbps FTDMA VSAT based Internet connectivity. Users can make use of this facility at college Infodrome with 08 workstations and 07 workstations in Internet Browsing Centre. The College discussion talk have been provided interactive pares for the directing staff enabling live annotation on ongoing presentations and the students have interactive pads to assist their response and participation. A desktop visualiser enables 3D demonstration of objects under discussion.

DSSC Digital Library has about six lakh images of various journals in the library for reference and approximately 1000 e books. The same will continue to grow. Guest lectures are recorded and made available for subsequent reference. Concept of Knowledge bank is being conceptualised by making all types of references material available on the network. Old dissertations, Trishul, Hoot, Classroom presentations, teaching material etc are being made available to provide continuity to the research work in the college. The DSSC distributes a large number of CBTs for various training related topics. The Student Officers can run the packages in their own time for number of times till they comprehend the subject. This enhances the of the Student Officer a near paperless networking solution is provided during various exercises.
